TODAY'S eTIP(TM): Mouse Function Terms and Meanings

The mouse is an indispensable tool in Word 97's graphical point-and-shoot environment of buttons and icons. Simply by pointing to a button or icon with the mouse pointer and clicking a mouse button, you can execute a command.

Mouse use has its own special lingo. Working with the mouse quickly becomes second nature. As you become proficient with Word, you can use the mouse to integrate various keyboard shortcuts and perform many tasks more quickly.

The following lists basic terms used to define mouse operations:

* Click: Quickly press and release the left mouse button while the mouse pointer is on an object, such as a menu command, icon, or button.

* Right-click: Quickly press and release the right mouse button while the mouse pointer is on an object, such as a menu command, icon, or button.

* Double-click: Quickly click the left mouse button twice while the mouse pointer is on an object, such as a menu command, icon, or button.

* Drag: Move the mouse pointer to an object on-screen. Press and hold the left mouse button while moving the mouse, and then release the button.

* Point: Move the mouse pointer directly to a specific location on-screen, such as a menu command, icon, or button.
